Race: 2009 Bakersfield Road Race Stat Championships - Men's Cat 3
Racers: Adam Masters, Greg Wooten (secret U25 racer)
Result: 4th, 10th
It's been a while since I've posted a race report only because I've been struggling a bit in probably every part of my life, but the fitness is definitely coming back around. I wish every race could have a 5 mile 9% grade to the finish, but it didn't. After realizing my climbing will post no threat in the race I stayed focused on my water and food. I constantly made myself flexible on the bike to stretch my lower back which is my main problem. The back was fantastic today! After going over the climb for the last time the field had split up pretty good. Greg and I managed to stay up front and safe...we kept it together and there was about 12 of the 60+ riders that made it to line for the finish. During our escape Greg and I discussed some options. I wanted to sprint and Greg free willingly was 100% for the plan. He was a MONSTER, he just had raced the day before and still managed to show some great fitness! He constantly attacked and pulled little breakaway attempts back and went solo, he did it all! He pulled up to me and asked if I was fresh..all I could do was smile because I'm used to covering the moves, but this time got the amazing view of a sprinter chillen and waiting for the sprint. Thanks Greg! 1000 meters to go I put my head down a sprinted to the line it was REALLLLY far! I had 3 guys on my wheel and they all managed to come around around with like 10meters to go...photo finish for 3rd&4th but ended up 4th. I guess I can't be to disappointed, Field sprints aren't my thing.
Greg please email me off list I got some dough....adamkmasters@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Adam Masters U25
