Alex Welch Injured at Tour of Pennsylvania

After lighting up the final climb (mile ~69-72) with a volley of attacks with teammate Adrian Gerrits, Most Aggressive Rider Alex Welch (Team VRC: NOW-MS Society) crashed badly on the 45+ mph descent when another rider crossed over him and took out his front wheel. It looked very serious as he lay in a heap not moving. Tour medical was on the scene almost immediately and got him to UPMC Hospital (Pittsburgh).

The team took shifts visiting Alex after the stage. He was in a lot of pain but very happy to see some familar faces. Alex suffered a broken collar bone, broken hip, and concussion. His helmet was cracked clean through in three separate places, so we are so thankful it's not far worse.

The most recent update (7/1) is Alex is leaving the hospital today and returning to Tulsa. We wish him a speedy and fully recovery!
