Team VRC: NOW-MS Society Elite U25 team concluded a very successful American Eagle Tour of Pennsylvania (June 24-June 30, 2008) and certainly lived up to the "No Opportunity Wasted" lifestyle approach advocated by its title sponsor (NOW). Highlights of the team's success:
- A rider in both of the breaks that finished clear of the bunch (Adrian Gerrits on Stage 2 and Alex Welch on Stage 4)
- Two top-10 Stage results (Gerrits Stage 2 and Welch Stage 4)
- Podium appearance with Welch's earning Most Aggressive Rider on Stage 4
- A rider in the top-10 from Stage 2 onward (Gerrits finished 9th on GC)
The most disappointing aspect was not being ranked on Team GC because the team only finished two riders (Team GC is determined based on each team's three best riders' combined times). The team lost one rider to the time cut on Stage 2 and three riders to medical issues (Steffanoni on Stage 2 to bladder infection; Martinez to knee issue on Stage 3; and Welch to a terrible crash on Stage 5).
The team was supported by Andy Haggerty, Elle Ullum, Kendall Seyer, and Director Sportif Eddie Monnier. Everyone enjoyed this spectacular event and we're hopeful that our strong performance will earn us an invite back for 2009. We will field an even stronger, more experienced team.
