Race Report CBR 40+ 1/2/3

Despite having taken six weeks off and completing only 7 rides since
I started back, I was oddly eager to race today. So I lined up for the
40+ race, thanks to Abigail helping keep an eye on my daughter Sisi,
my number one cheerleader. I was the solo racer for NOW-MS Society.

The field was very large and very competitive. Amgen had both sheer
numbers and awesome power. It will make it easy to root for everyone
and anyone else all season. ;-)

Thurlow and I got a gap on the second lap but thankfully the field
shut that down within a lap, despite one other having bridged across.

About mid-race, Thurlow and somebody else got away and stayed away. I
presume Thurlow won but not really sure.

No other breaks really threatened but there were a number of moves
that required effort to cover.

Amgen had an army of guys to lead out Antony Galvan, who won the field
sprint for 3rd (wearing his UBS kit and not the Amgen kit, a technical
no-no so the entire Amgen squad is lucky nobody protested).

I had moved up to the top-10 on the last lap but got pinched a little
and decided the first race of the season wasn't the ideal time to take
risk in holding my position. I was probably top-25 or close to it.
Most importantly, I had fun and got a good speed workout in.

The race was very safe and fairly fast. I'm a huge fan of the CBR
races and encourage others to come out.
