More news to report from a great weekend of NOW-MS Society racing:
While his teammates were at Redlands, Stephen Leece represented in Northern California at a new 2-day, 3-stage race called the Topsport Stage Race. He got 4th in the Road Race on Sunday and 6th overall.
The NOW-MS Society woman took home 3 top 10s in the Women 3/4 race at LA Circuit Race yesterday-- in a field of approximately 40. Christine Barron, our youngest rider, placed 4th, Betsy Kogan 5th, Julie Guthrie 6th and Vikki Appel 11th.

Redlands Bicycle Classic Stage Race
Stage 3 - Road Race, and Final Results
Pro Men Stage 3 Results: Thomas Hubbard 58th, Sergio Hernandez 89th, Corey Farrell 90th. Danny Heeley, Charles Bryer, Cory Greenberg, Blake Anton finished with the main pack.
Pro Men Final GC: The men finished 18th of 24 teams. Thomas 56th, Sergio 84th, Corey Farrell 89th, Danny 101, Charles 118, Blake 120, Cory Greenberg 121.
Pro Men Road Race today, a break early in the race of 11 riders then down to 8. Thomas Hubbard and Sergio Hernandez were in the main field of 40 or 50 riders which then went down to about 25 or 30. Sergio went off the front of that main field first, followed by Thomas. Chasing the break, they came within approx a minute. Thomas performed extremely well today, even with his bruises from a nasty crash in the crit yesterday. The rest of the men were hanging tough, riding well with the pack.
Pro Women Stage 3 Results: Kendall Ryan 48th, Jennifer Johansen 76th, Tammy Wildgoose 77th, Jenna Kowalski 82nd.
Pro Women Final GC: Kendall 65th, Jen Jo 77th, Tammy 81st, Jenna 84th.
In their first time at Redlands Stage Race, the Pro Women rose to the challenge in a field of high caliber riders incl. Peanut Butter & Co Twenty12, HTC Columbia, TBCO. Like the men, they took advantage of a great opportunity to learn about racing in general and their own racing throughout the weekend at Redlands. It was a battle mentally and physically. Kendall Ryan was very impressive this weekend, not missing a beat in a field of top racers. All the women performed to the best of their abilities and represented our team well. Lauren Liscinski and Julia Lafranchise also raced in the Men Masters 35 today.
Per Team Director Kurt Stockton, all performed very well at Redlands, better with each day. The men, he said, made phenomenal improvements over last year. They suffered and they made it through. Their season has gotten progressively tougher and the riders have stepped up. Kurt received many compliments throughout the weekend on how well the team rode and that they did what they needed to do. Nice job representing NOW-MS Society.
Redlands Criterium Men Cat 3:
Adam Masters raced the crit very aggressively. He initiated a break, got caught and then initiated a second break. He came in 2nd by less than half a wheel. Adam was definitely the most aggressive rider in the Cat 3 race. He did not hold back. FYI, Adam also provided a huge amount of support for the rest of the team this weekend.
Thank you also to Emily Baker, the team's soigner and to Pat and Anne Marie Meyer who hosted the men, women and support staff-- all 17 people-- in their beautiful home. And thank you to Team Director Kurt Stockton.
Back home at the LA Circuit Race:
Men Cat 3 - Lawrence Novitch placed 16th and Barry Fink also raced, working hard for the team.
Men Cat 4 - Nick Hare got in a 2 man breakaway, with Jens Wallrabe at the front of the field blocking but the break did not hold, Nick placed 26th, John Velez and Jens both did a great job controlling the peloton. Nate Whitman came in 10th.
Men Cat 5 - Kevin Hinton 14th

Redlands Stage 2 NOW men and women
Saturday, March 27
Redlands Bicycle Classic Stage Race
Stage 2 - Criterium
In the women's race today, Kendall Ryan rode attentively at the front of the field. She was close to making the break of 10 riders. She came in 5th in field sprint. Placed 13th in the race.
The breakaway pace caused many in the women's field to not make the time cut but the rest of the NOW-MS Society women: Jennifer Johansen, Jenna Kowalski and guest rider Tammy Wildgoose did make the cut, are still in the race and will start the road race tomorrow. Kendall is 69th in GC. Jen Jo 77th. Tammy 82nd. Jenna 88th.
In the men's race, Fly V set a tough tempo all day. Sergio Hernandez was in 2 break attempts, one in the first 3rd of the race and one in the last 3rd of the race. But the field was not letting much out. It was a day of a lot of crashes, including a big one 6 laps from the end that reshuffled things. Corey Farrell, Danny Heeley and Sergio all avoided crashes. Thomas Hubbard, Cory Greenberg and Charles Bryer got caught up in crashes but are fine, got right back in the race and finished. After a tough crash yesterday, Kit fought back today and rode hard. Official men's results TBA.
Tomorrow is Stage 3, the Road Race
10:00am Women (68.3 miles, 9 laps)
1:30pm Men (94.1 miles, 12 laps)

U25 WOMEN TOUR DE MURRIETA RACE REPORT
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The young women of NOW MS-Society had the opportunity (thanks to our sponsors) to race Tour de Murrieta this weekend. The three day challenge began at Fiesta Island, at 6:45am on Friday morning; then headed to the heart of Murrieta for a technical six corner criterium Saturday, and finished with a 45 mile circuit race today.
The Skinny:
TT: None of us have raced that early since our training wheel days; and the tour is an Omnium, meaning it goes by points (not time), needless to say, numbers were slim. But those of us who raced, enjoyed the roughly 30 minute frolic and were done just in time for (fill in your favorite morning activity here; not including sleep).
Crit: Goal number one of the day was better communication, and we definitely made it happen during the eight or so prime laps we had. . .in a row! We organized a couple lead out attempts for primes and were active at the front of the field. As the finish got closer the pace ramped up; PB 2012 sent a rider up the road inside one to go (she won) and the rest of us were left to second place; I was first in and out of turn four, but. . .the sprint was about three blocks long so I got swallowed; Lauren 15th.
Today the circuit race was fast. . .and slow. . .and fast. . .and painfully slow. . .and really fast. Translate: loads of attacks during the first half of the race; tired legs and slow riding; more attacks and INCYCLE sent a rider solo up the rode; really slow riding as everyone prepared for the second place sprint; finally, a fast leadout by PB 2012 (who were very active the entire race) and INCYCLE. I got 11th.
Exciting notes:
1. Our newest team mate Ivie Crawford (congrats to her for the well earned 3 upgrade) unfortunately broke her derailleur and had to swap bikes today; she rode like a champ though and still finished the race.
2. I got a flat in the circuit race today and got the worlds fastest wheel change thanks to Kurt and the SRAM neutral car.
3. Jenjo gave me the best push ever during the circuit race,
As the team races more and more we are becoming a unit; or force if you will. Working together, communicating and knowing eachothers strengths is becoming second nature. Watch out.
Sincerely yours,
Julia Lafranchise

MERCO Race Report-NOW women
What: Merco Classic
Who: Lauren Liscinski
Where: Lovely Merced, CA
Why: To see if the legs are coming back...
SATURDAY: The Crit
I was definitely intimidated going into this race. I have had less than spectacular races the past few weeks and to say I was nervous rolling by the HTC-Columbia and TIBCO team trailers is a bit of an understatement. I got in a really good warm-up rolling around the beautiful streets of Merced (no sarcasm....) and timed all the pre-race necessities quite well. Wheels in pit-check. Porta-potty stop-check. Pre-race gu-check. Just enough time to have a full panic attack-check.
I got a good spot on the line and the race was fast and furious from the gun. Attacks were going left and right and I found myself doing everything I could to stay in the top half. I was feeling good though; legs felt awesome, lungs working, only thing rusty was my nerve being in that aggressive of a race again. Sergio had told me over breakfast to not be afraid to attack... so about 20 laps in I did. Very short lived, but it felt good to find the legs. I also found myself off the front for a lap or two w/ a group of five but it was very apparent that nothing was going to get away.
With five laps to go things got hectic. The S-Turn was especially tough as it was narrow w/ footed barricades on both sides. At one point I found my options to be either A. Go into the barricades or B. Hope that the butt near my shifter would support me... Turns out Ina Teutenberg can support that kinda thing. Go figure. Things stayed hectic the rest of the race and with three to go a girl swerved in front of me on the home straight. I moved right to get out of the way and felt shifters on my hip. I tried as best I could to stay stable and lean into the person to right the situation... no such luck. I hear carnage behind me, rear wheel skips.. "power in the pedals." We come around the back side and the moto-ref slows us all down. Turns out the crash was worse than I imagined. We're stopped at the start/finish for about 20 minutes while the medics carry away the injured. The officials decided to start us w/ five to go. That was not a good sensation after getting cold and stiff. I got to the front but was not confident enough to hold my position so I slipped back a bit and found myself sprinting for 19th. It felt great to be active and I was happy with my result. Top ten next time for sure.
SUNDAY: The Road Race
I had absolutely no expectaions for this race, except that it would hurt. 72 miles with the same women as yesterday and then some. Again, it was on from the start with Ina Teutenberg attacking on the first roller. This would be the entire first lap. I could not believe how aggressive and fast the first 24 miles were. There were a ton of small breaks that would go up the road and then either HTC-Columbia, TIBCO, Webcor, or PB-2012 would decide they did not like the composition and the chase would be on. After the first lap I decided to try to sit in a bit more since it did not seem like anything would get away. I was so happy to see Steven's parents in the feed zone as I seemed to have a complete inablitiy to utilize any of the race food I took with me. I grabbed the gleaming silver ball from David Leece's hand and unwrapped the aluminum foil faster than I thought possible. Inside was the bearclaw I was praying for. Instant sugar high.. and it was sure needed for that third lap. There is a really rough section of road on the third leg of the rectangle (Cox Ferry Rd) that I had been at the back for the first two laps. My only goal was to be near the front here on the third and final lap.
However, I could not remember how far away the turn was....so, I found myself patrolling the front the entire third lap. "Get to the front and defend your position there." It seemed like the only way to defend it was to go with every move that tried its hand at getting off the front. I tried to be as smart as I could and simply follow wheels, but there were a few times that I had to put out more energy than I wanted. Right before the turn I went with an attack following a HTC-Columbia wheel and as we made our way around the turn I looked back and noticed it was a significant gap. Even though I had already predicted nothing would get away, I got really excited at the possibility of a top 5 finish off the front and tried to encourage the girls to work. We organized a rotating paceline but we just didnt have the power with full TIBCO and PB 2012 squads chasing (see the photo here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/merco-cycling-classic-ne/stage-2/photos/109675). We got caught before the final climb and I found myself drifing backwards. I felt a hand on my butt and realized I was now traveling at the same speed as the peleton thanks to the Webcor girl that had been in the break with me (unfortunately I dont know who she was). She gave me words of encouragement and I found my legs enough to get up the climb at the back. I used the next descent to work my way to the front before the final rollers (http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/merco-cycling-classic-ne/stage-2/photos/109676).
There was a crash the last 5k or so that caused a gap between the front group and where I was. I only had one effort left and I used it to sprint back on to the back of the front group. Once I was there though I simply could not hold on and pedalled in for 37th. Again, I was happy with my result and I got to meet some strong, influential women. This was a great preview of what the rest of March will have in store with San Dimas and Redlands coming up and I am super excited.
Sorry this was so long, but I hope you enjoyed parts of it! Thank you to every member of this team as you have each had a part in giving me this opportunity to race with the highest caliber of women in the sport. I hope to have more good news as the season goes on.
Best,
Lauren Liscinski
